The people of Boston have spoken and say "NO" to this
Why?
Prosecutors have charged the Dzhokhar A Tsarnaev, with seventeen charges that carry the ultimate admonition: the death penalty.
Massachusetts abolished its own death penalty in 1984, but as Tsarnaev is being prosecuted in federal court he is liable to be sentenced to death by lethal injection.
A recent poll sponsored by the Boston Globe found that a significant majority of Boston residents favor life without parole over the death penalty for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, yet the decision over whether he should live or die is not their own.
In a state that hasn’t seen an execution in nearly 70 years, the decision rests with US Attorney General Eric Holder who is due to reveal his decision shortly.
How?
After the condemned is fastened onto the execution table, two intravenous catheters are inserted, one in each arm. Only one is used for the execution, the other is reserved as a backup in case the primary IV fails. The arm of the condemned is swabbed with alcohol before the needle is inserted.
The intravenous injection is usually a mixture of compounds, designed to induce rapid unconsciousness followed by death through paralysis of respiratory muscles and/or by inducing cardiac arrest.
During the execution, the patient's cardiac rhythm is monitored and death is pronounced after cardiac activity stops.
Death usually occurs within seven minutes, although the whole procedure can take up to 45 minutes.
More:
In the USA, a number of lethal injection executions have run into serious difficulty. Some executions have lasted between 20 minutes to over an hour during which prisoners have been seen gasping for air, grimacing and convulsing during executions. Autopsies have shown severe, foot long chemical burns to the skin and needles have also been been found in soft tissue.
